The purpose of the Medical Director position is to deliver and oversee the medical care of Valir PACE Foundation participants.  The Medical Director works jointly with nursing, therapy, activities, dietary, social services and transportation as part of the Interdisciplinary Team to determine and monitor the care plan for each PACE participant in compliance with all national and state regulations/laws. The Medical Director also upholds the Valir PACE mission, to provide a higher standard of care, for each participant.



Licenses or Certifications:  Certified to practice medicine in the State of Oklahoma without limitation or restriction and licensed by both the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control (“OBNDDC”) and the Drug enforcement Agency (“DEA”).  CPR Certification


Total Education, Vocational Training, and Experience:  A minimum of 1 year experience with the frail and elderly required.



1.                   A strong knowledge of the Federal and State laws and regulations governing health care.

2.                   Detailed understanding of government requirements/expectations for health care compliance programs.

3.                   Strong oral and written communication, planning, and problem solving skills.

4.                   Maintains a high degree of credibility, independence, integrity, confidentiality and trust.

5.                   Able to operate successfully in a constantly changing, fast-paced environment.  Demonstrates initiative, self-motivation, practical learning skills, enthusiasm, and an ability to complete multiple tasks in a timely and accurate manner.

6.                   Must be able to perform computer skills.

7.                   Knows and adheres to the philosophy and goals of the Valir PACE program

8.                   Maintains a safe environment for clients, visitors and staff

9.                   Keeps confidentiality of client records, report and discussions

10.                Maintains flexibility in schedule and response to unexpected emergencies and changes in workload in order to fulfill responsibilities.

11.                Is professional in appearance and manner



1.                   Create comprehensive History & Physical and assessment on new referrals

2.                   Periodic assessments on established participants

3.                   Evaluation and treatment of participants during acute illness

4.                   Determining the need and facilitating referrals to other medical specialists when deemed necessary

5.                   Discussing care guidelines with participants

6.                   Judicious utilization of specialist consultations

7.                   Rotating night and weekend call with other Valir PACE clinical care providers

8.       Participates in the development and revision of the participant’s plan of care as a member of the interdisciplinary team

9.                   Communicates participant changes to team.

10.                Integrates the primary care treatment plan into the overall plan of care

11.    Interacts with other team members to meet emergent and acute needs of participants; Participates in discharge planning

12.    Maintains quality documentation of all services provided

13.    Collaborates with nurse practitioner, physician assistant, and/or other physicians to ensure comprehensive and continuous care

14.    Provides acute care inpatient consultations (e.g., as medical consultant to Valir PACE program participants on non-medical services)

15.    Conducts offsite assessments as needed, including in the participants home, SNF, acute care setting, etc.

16.    Is an active participant in IDT, Infection Control, QAPI and other committees as deemed necessary by the PACE Board and/or PACE Director

17.    Acts as a liaison between Valir PACE and community physicians



Position has Full Access to Protected Health Information of patients on caseload.
